For the second year running, Active Kitchens & Joinery has taken out 2015 HIA-CSR Hunter Housing and Kitchen And Bathroom Award’s Kitchen of the Year.
Located in the heart of Newcastle’s CBD, the client desired a modern concept to compliment the existing historic building and incorporate industrial elements of the surrounding port. The kitchen retains the atmosphere of the original 1899 building with its exposed beams and wooden support columns. The glass-fronted brick building has stunning views over Newcastle Harbour.
The kitchen features sleek, modern shadow lines giving it a contemporary industrial look, with the textured subway tiled splashback folding back into the historic elements of the building.
The large island bench features 40mm ‘Oyster’ Caesarstone with 60mm ‘Raven’ Caesarstone as a breakfast bar servery to resemble a floating beam. These two shades of grey complement each other stylishly and compliment the polished concrete flooring. The cabinetry is made up of 2Pac Polyurethane flat doors with recessed handles in Dulux ‘Dieskau’ Satin finish.
All drawers consist of Blumotion Antaro soft-closing mechanisms. The kitchen also features inner drawers to the pantry, allowing for easier storage. Blum Aventos Lift-Up doors have been used in the side bar area allowing easy access to glasses while you ponder your selection from the expansive integrated wine room.
Carefully selected appliances such as the ILVE stove and rangehood help cement the industrial design and the ZIP hydrotap provides welcome convenience.
